PROGRAM CIRCUIT SELECTOR & REMOTE CONTROL PANEL

RS2620 RS2620

The RS2620 Program CircuitSelector provides operating simplicity, increased economy and complete versatility in the use of multiple remote pickup lines. With it, the studio has complete control over switching events, including lines to be switched, the time of switching and mode of operation. It is not necessary to involve telephone company personnel in these operations, allowing accurate, rapid switching and back-to-back remotes from several different locations. Each RS2620 is equipped with two program channels, allowing operation in stereo, mono or dual mono modes. The mode of operation is assigned during set-up to the particular remote lines and may be intermixed; some lines may be configured for stereo and some mono. The assigned mode is automatically invoked when the line is selected.

Two extra switched lines are provided in addition to the main program lines, a Telephone Coordinate Channel (TCC) for control purposes and a cue line to allow a signal feed from the studio to the remote location. The lines from the remote pickups terminate at the RS2620 in the telephone central office, allowing interconnection to the studio with a minimum number of lines.

Five telephone company lines are required between the studio and central office for full stereo operation, two program, one TCC, one cue and one dial line for the remote control panel. When operating in mono, of if cue is not required, the number of lines required decreases to three. Program lines are selected via the keypad on the front panel of the circuit selector, the remote control unit or via any standard Touch-Tone telephone. A timed, programmable, security code is incorporated on the telephone line to prevent unauthorized access.

The selected line, along with the next line to be selected, is displayed on a large character, high-contrast, back-lit, liquid crystal display on the front panel of the circuit selector and remote control unit. Each is equipped with a variable contrast control, providing optimum viewing quality under extremes of ambient light. Names of up to 8 characters in length may be assigned to each of the program lines from the keypads and will be displayed along with the line number. Codes indicating that the line has been equalized and mono or stereo operating modes are also incorporated into this display. Up to two remote control units may be used with each circuit selector and the displays on all connected units will display the same information, regardless of what source was used to enter that information. A true tally-back circuit is used to prevent false indications of selected lines.

The program circuit selector utilizes four equalizer circuits, a main and a set-up for each of the two channels. The line level, high frequency and phase equalization are adjusted on the set-up equalizers by the internal microcontroller via an external DOS computer connected to the front panel RS232 serial data port. These adjustments may also be done with a remote computer via a modem link to the serial data port. The settings for each line are then stored in the battery-backed internal memory and are automatically loaded into the main equalizers when that line is selected. This allows two equalizers to do the work which previously required twenty, reduces the quantity of controls, simplifies set-up and improves security.

The computer software used for set-up is user-friendly with on-screen prompts and level indications, enabling technicians unfamiliar with the unit to easily and quickly perform set-up adjustments. It also allows the setup data to be stored in the computer or on floppy disks as a backup. Internal interlocks allow the set-up of any non-selected line while preventing any interruption of the line currently active. Each set-up equalizer is equipped with front panel bantam test jacks, for line input, equipment input and output. Each main equalizer output is provided with a bantam monitor jack, an output level control and an LED to indicate the presence of an audio signal. The unit also incorporates an internal 1kHz oscillator as an aid in system test and alignment.

The RS2620 Program Circuit Selector is available in two versions, the standard unit with inputs for either 10 monaural lines or 5 stereo pairs, and the expanded version equipped with the RS2620-6 module providing inputs for 20 mono lines or 10 stereo pairs. The expansion module plugs into a slot provided on the rear panel, allowing the standard unit to be easily field-upgraded at any time.

Both units are enclosed in rugged, compact, all-steel chassis which flush mount in a standard 19 inch equipment rack, with the Program Circuit Selector occupying 5¼ inches of panel space and the Remote Control Panel occupying 3½ inches. Adaptor brackets are available to allow recess mounting and flush or recess mounting in a 23 inch rack. The RS2620 is powered directly from the -48 Volt central office battery and the RS2621 from the standard AC line, via an external plug-in supply included with the unit, or from an external 24 Volt DC source.
